Attention foodies, get ready as Australian restaurateur Chris Lucas has today announced plans to open his first restaurant in Canberra, a Mediterranean concept named Carlotta. The restaurant will open in the heart of Canberra Centre’s Scotts Crossing precinct this spring.

Chris Lucas is responsible for some of Melbourne and Sydney’s most innovative and loved dining institutions including the renowned Chin Chin, Grill Americano and Kisumé, as well as the transformation of the 80 Collins Street precinct in Melbourne - home to his revered Society.

Lucas has collaborated with QIC to deliver a dining destination with his signature focus on timeless design, contemporary menu offerings and vibrant energy. This concept has been designed especially for Canberra, distinguishing itself from any of Lucas’ diverse endeavours across the country.

Chris Lucas said, “QIC share my vision for working with likeminded creatives to develop exciting precincts with world-class restaurants and bars that set the benchmark for Australian design excellence. Our last collaboration at 80 Collins Street which saw the creation of the stunning Society Dining Room, Lillian Brasserie, and high octane Yakimono is a testament to our shared vision of growing cities through experiences.”

“I’ve witnessed from afar how exciting and energetic the Canberra food scene has become, and I can’t wait to open Carlotta and work with the incredible array of local producers, growers and hospitality talent.”

Canberra boasts one of Australia’s fastest growing food scenes with a new generation of talent transforming the city into one of the most exciting places to dine out in the country. Buoyed by an increasingly youthful population, Canberra is a dynamic and vibrant city with a thirst for experiential dining and nighttime experiences.

Gary Stewart, General Manager of Canberra Centre said, “we are so thrilled to partner with Chris Lucas and Lucas Restaurants to bring one of his visionary, acclaimed restaurants to Canberra Centre. “We envision that Carlotta's presence within our vibrant Scotts Crossing precinct will serve to revitalise the city center, infusing even more energy and vitality into the nighttime economy of the CBD.”

Construction of the new restaurant is underway, with further details around the core team, branding, menu, and opening dates to be shared ahead of the spring 2024 opening.
