Published on 07 June 2018 by Jemma Mrdak

Stylish yet sophisticated office to bar appropriate looks can be difficult to come by, especially as we move into the cooler months.

Trying to dress for both the workplace and after work events, whether it be office drinks, a romantic date or a meeting, can be super tricky. You want to look professional for your 9-5, but then cute and classy for after hours when you don’t have time to change in between.

Thankfully, all it takes is ensuring that you’re making the right purchases in store, and buying items that can easily be interchangeable with other looks that you already own. Planning is key when it comes to styling looks for both work and after work events.

Canberra style blogger Jemma Mrdak shares with you a few key looks she sourced from retailers Husk, gorman and sass & bide...Let’s take a look at what she found!

Bohemian chic vibes from Husk

Husk is one of those retailers where you are guaranteed to fall in love with pretty much every-thing in store!

Husk is home to some of the world’s most desirable and coveted brands. Renowned for its sig-nature leather, fluid silks and luxe knits all of which embody modern global style, Husk’s col-lection is a treasure trove of beautiful designs from designers around the globe.

One particular style of dress that is most definitely appropriate for both work and play is the Husk Shalimar Dress. This gorgeous piece is made from a silk georgette and features a port-leaf print with a button front bodice, blouson sleeve with elastic cuff, as well as handkerchief hem. It also has a belt which means you can shape it to suit you as well.

Whilst the dress itself is versatile enough for wearing both to work and to after work drinks, adding the Husk Shawl Leather Jacket is great for wearing over the top of the dress to add a touch of the WOW factor. This jacket has a detachable contrast Toscana collar that can also be worn separately over the dress as well!

The Husk Carmen Boot with the block heel ties the look together perfectly and is a shoe that you can easily wear to work and the bar. Oh, and they’re super comfortable too!

Have fun this winter with gorman

From its whimsical signature prints, directional knitwear and distinctive colour palettes, iconic Australian label gorman is all for its vintage and tribal references, and classic twist on its pieces.

There is a large variety of dresses, tops, skirts and pairs of pants in the gorman range that are absolutely perfect for wearing to work, and for after work drinks and events, purely because they have such a signature and quirky look and style. `

The Pumpkin Flower Silk Dress is a printed sand-washed silk crepe dress that has a fantastic exclusive gorman pumpkin flower print, as well as a round neckline, circular frill detail on the 3/4 length sleeve, and waisted adjustable ties.

The circular frill detail on the hem makes it both quirky, but also office appropriate, as does the matching Lone Ranger Metallic Mules with their almond toe shape. After work, ditch your handbag and swap it for the Printed Leather Zip Purse !

If you’re on the hunt for a skirt and top combo, then look no further than the Corduroy Long Skirt and Moss Shirt in Olive .This is a fantastic combination for a few reasons, mainly because the silhouette of the shirt works perfectly with the streamlined skirt, and the combination of the two different textures makes for a great statement.

The Moss Shirt features long full sleeves with cuffs, as well as gathering through the bodice front and back. It’s great for both tucking into skirts, or wearing out over a pair of fitted pants.

The Corduroy Long Skirt has a great pencil shape, cinched in waist and finishes below the knee - which definitely makes it office appropriate.

Adding the Low Tide Boot in Silver really jazzes the look up which means you can go straight from work to you event without having the change your shoes!

They are also a one stop shop when it comes to finding looks that are ideal for both work and play!

No workwear look is complete without a quality silk shirt that you can wear over and over, paired with multiple items from your wardrobe. The Lightness Shirt is an effortless and an easy-wearing basic you will come back to wearing over and over again. The rich, lustrous navy colour is definitely 'IN' this season, and it’s slightly fitted look makes it ideal for either wearing out over a pair of pants, or tucked in with a fitted skirt.

We have paired the shirt with both pants and a skirt to showcase just how versatile this shirt really is for the workplace, and for after work events.

The Geo Tales Pant offers a comfortable, relaxed style that will definitely be a go-to for you this autumn-winter. Featuring a narrow leg that elongates the silhouette, these pants deliver on the details with its stand-out print and zipper detailing on the ankle cuffs.

If you like to stand out a little more, pairing the shirt with The Unfolded Skirt will definitely ensure you turn heads. Creating a graceful fluidity with its asymmetrical hemline, this black and navy skirt has a three-dimensional panel seam detail.

Both looks can be paired with The Unfolded Jacket which is another wardrobe must-have this season. Featuring a double-breasted design and a two snap front closure, the jacket makes a statement with its beautiful detailing. Wear it over the shoulders after work for a more casual vibe.
