July school holiday highlights

Published on 06 July 2018 by Canberra Centre

Worried about the kids feeling cooped up these school holidays? Canberra Centre’s diverse program of activities will keep their minds active and wear out that excess energy in no time. Imaginative kids will love our series of live readings, while miniature masterchefs can enjoy creating some sweet treats for the family table.

Build-A-Bear workshops

Beginning 9 July, the plush toy designers at Build-A-Bear Workshop are running a busy week of one-hour sessions to help children take their teddy bear customisation to the next level. There will be two to three sessions each day, but places are limited to it's worth registering for your preferred slot in advance. During the interactive workshop your child will be able to choose everything from the stuffing and scent to the outfit and accessories for their bear. There's no reason why the youngest member of your family should be the only one to get a new stuffed animal companion either - a personalised teddy makes for a wonderful gift for young-at-heart grown-ups too. Register for your preferred session now >

Story Time at Robinsons Bookshop

Robinsons Bookshop ramps up the entertainment these school holidays with Story Time including special readings by the authors themselves. Sessions will run daily, featuring some of the most inspiring characters to appear on the page this year brought to life by their very own creators and the experienced Robinsons storytelling team. Stay tuned for details.

Finger Bun Decorating

Treat your children to some kitchen playtime - without any of the washing up - at our Bakers Delight cake decorating station. Using colourful icing and stick-on sweets, aspiring young bakers can have fun adding the finishing touches to a classic finger bun and then take it home for a special afternoon tea. No need to book, just pop by the bakery at any time during the holiday period for some supervised entertainment of the super-sweet variety.

Movie Marathon

We’d be surprised if the kids aren’t already nagging you to take them to see Incredibles 2. The sequel to 2004’s wildly popular The Incredibles sees the superhero family back in action facing a new foe who seeks to turn public opinion against society’s supers. Older kids after some action will enjoy Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which follows Owen and Claire as they return to Isla Nubar four years after the theme park closed down. On their trip to save the dinosaurs, they discover that an active volcano is threatening to extinguish all life on the island. Check screening times at Dendy Cinemas >

Food and drink specials

Keep the kids well fed and watered with food court specials and meal deals happening daily. After a whirl around the pop-up Ice Skating Rink at nearby Garema Place, what could be better than a Nutella-stuffed gozleme from Gozleme King for them and a Gewurzhaus mulled wine for you?
